help!

Has anybody got any ideas how I can stop a handbag strap slipping off my shoulder?

I have a lovely leather bag which is the sort you can wear over your shoulder or carry like Tinky Winky, but the strap is too wide and won't sit in the dink of my shoulder so it keeps slipping off.

I have tried those silicone pads you put in to make shoes comfy but they get unstuck and then curl up and I find them hanging off my clothes like slugs.

I feel certain there must be some non-slip product out there that would do the trick without ripping holes in my clothes...

Any ideas?

Please?

LOL, I am the least handbaggy person alive, so can't advise! I can't do without my rucksack - and it doesn't slip off.

Hi!
You can try to put one side of a Velcro Stripe inside the strap.

Or you can use sandpaper and rough the inside of the strap.

Or put an doublesided sticky-tape inside and change it regulary.

But all of these ideas will destroy a little bit the bag.

Ha...know the problem well. I ended cutting and resewing the strap of a very expensive leather long handled handbag into a very expensive leather short handled handbag!
No help ehh? Sorry:-)

I wear my purses with the strap diagonally crosswise to avoid this problem, as I have tiny shoulders, but I have seen a kind of "middle of the strap" cozy, some with non-slip rubber on the inside that faces your shoulder, and some with suede leather on the inside. You could make something, like the flat things that they use on camera bags to cushion the shoulder area, if the strap on your bag is detachable, or you could simply stitch some suede or ultrasuede to the inside area of the strap. Or if you have a trusted local shoe repair person, i would ask them for help. Good luck!

i have no experience in fixing this but agree with alison on trying a strip of suede or something similar - it's a very irritating problem - i ended up buying a bag with a non leather handle

good luck and let us know how you get on!

I think you should just buy another bag.

Sue, you have seen my one and only squishy leather shoulder bag, and seen me continually try to relaunch into the center shoulder spot.

I cannot change my narrow shoulders, and like that bag so much, that I accept its requirements. It's most slippery, of course, when I am wearing my nylon, down-filled, winter coat.

I don't know how you can solve your problem, and I really DON'T want to sound unsympathetic but your description of the silicone pads "hanging off your clothes like slugs" made me roar with laughter...... I love it when humour arises out of a bad situation!(That's me off the Christmas card list then....).

I would get a nice piece of wool or felt and make a gripper tube that you can take on and off. Just put a strip of velcro to close the tube around your strap.

If I remember right my mom always tied knots in my purses where they sat on my shoulder, but I think the gripper tube would be a more finished look.

You could try chamoise (shammy? chammy?) leather sewn on the inside, or stuck. You might need a double thickness.
