a lime green day

I am not one of those people who go all dippy-skippy over bright, bright colours... I do really love colour, but I prefer it when it's seen in a tiny flash, like a kingfisher or a single buttercup in a hedgerow. There are certain colours though that make me go all weak and wanty, like pale dirty duck-egg blue, the beige-grey of unbleached linen, and today's colour, lime green...

As John Lewis were thoughtful enough to text me about the start of their summer clearance sale (uh? How did they get my number...?) I decided to go and 'have a look'...

It wasn't very long before ten balls of beautiful soft cashmerino yarn in the most perfect shade of slightly dirty yellow lime green 'found' their way into my basket... I wish you could feel how soft it is... it is absolutely divine and makes me want to stroke it. I am going to make it into a big, warm, lacy scarf for autumn. I love it.

Then, while I was waiting to pay (I had managed to wander all the way from the yarn department, past the shoes, clothes, make-up, fabric, cushions and bedlinen without buying anything else... how restrained am I?) this gorgeous gorgeous mug in the exact same colour appeared before me. Again, I wish you could reach into the photograph and stroke it... the lightly crackled glaze is so clear and the colour so pure and rich... it is hand-made in France by Jars (have a look at their website, it is beautiful). I am a firm believer in the cheering properties of a good mug, and as I need a new one for my tea at work, I had no difficulty in resisting it.

Lovely, lovely lime green. It ought to be available in little bottles from the chemist.

I'd be straight over to JL if I could for some of that yarn! This is one of my favourite colours too - you can keep all those vivid brights just give me these subtle brights instead - like you I go for duck egg too. Love the mug too of course!

Love that colour and the texture I can just imagen, very nice!!! And one of my favourite colours as well, I also like the colour of linen, teal (light), yellow, orange and different greys... Colour can make my heart skip and jump and take my breath away, so finds like what you found, is a great feeling : )

Lovely colours - can see why you were tempted to buy the mug Sue. Like the 'Jars' website too, especially the petals of various flowers to differentiate between ranges. Lesley

I have a nice woolen blouse in the same colour. And a necklace that my husband bought for me from abroad. It suits the blouse like your mug suits your yarn.
Now one of the sleeves needs repairing. And I shall do it for the Autumn time. Because the necklace is so lonely... It doesn't suit anything else!:)
I love all the nuances of green (my favourite colour)! And I think you made a wonderful choice! Sometimes things that must happen, just happen when we are not expecting... And that's one of the charming moments in life!:))

Sue, I love almost every color of green, although I cannot wear most of them. That doesn't stop me admiring them!

Your lime is spirit lifting green.

I loved playing with the electronic sketchpad. Thank you for giving us the link.

I'd have been tempted, too. I call that a serendipity moment. Very good for the soul! My personal treat to myself is an occasional visit to a local charity shop, or one selling second hand books; all in the cause of creativity you understand! (Can't wait to see your scrf.)

It never ceases to amaze me how powerful the effects of colours can be on us. I'm surrounded by coloured tapestry wools, embroidery threads, watercolours, crayons - you name it, it's an addiction, but it really does give me a boost. Lovely to know I'm not alone. Lovely blog.

I am another mug collector and green/chartreuse is one of my favourite colours at the moment. In fact I am knitting a similar coloured cardigan for my toddler daughter.

All in all I share this passion of yours.

Isn't the word 'cashmerino' beautiful? Now whenever I hear it I will have a vision of that lime green mug with a sliver of yarn in front.

John Lewis are very clever......

Love the photo, so beautifully arranged and cropped (or framed, you know what I mean)

But sorry, not my colour. Wool looks so soft though....

I know what you mean, sometimes you do colours the greatest justice by only including them in the details!
