a crochet heroine

I've just discovered the beautiful, beautiful work of the Parisian designer Sophie Digard. Gorgeous colours that are so desirable it's painful. I saw her work in this month's Country Living and almost wept with desire. On the Selvedge shop website you can see more, but the best range of her work can be seen on the Ped Shoes website, where these images are from, thank you Ped Shoes. They have a great zoom facility so you can see her exquisite crochet really close up, which is as close as I'm going to get unless I win the lottery.

She mostly makes these stunning scarves, but also a range of sweet necklaces from felted pompoms, you can see at least one here at Loop.

I agree with you her work is gorgeous....however when I was at a Selvedge magazine event earlier in the year they had some of her stuff which I made a B-line for and it wasn't as nice close up - clunky.
BUT her work is pure inspiration and she uses colour very well.

Ha ha, imagine all of us browsing through calmly with our cups of tea, flipping over the page and... suddenly... crochet alert! Cup of tea down, glasses on/off depending on eyesight, holding it up to the light and squinting, desperately trying to read the stockist info, heart pounding...! What are we like.

Hello Sue,

I also know of Sophie's beautiful crocheting.

As with many photographed imagery, it is different when you see close up, for real. I still remember the first time that I met Kaffe Fassett, years ago, at a presentation at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) and saw him open up a big duffle bag and out came lots of beautiful knits I already knew from photos.

The photos were magnificent. The actual items were a bit more loosely knit that I'd have thought, but were also beautiful. And ... immodestly, may I add, he liked my self-knit vest, too. He is an encouraging knitter!

Any of us could and do make gorgeous items. Perhaps it is luck, fate, or intervening agents that allow some to be seen by more than our immediate circle.

This could also be true of all forms of art?

Once again, Sue, you have gotten me to write a long comment! xo

Her work is fantastic! I just love that Mini Flower scarf! Does she crochet all those little squares individually and then sew them together or is there a way of crocheting them as you go, if you see what I mean? The Manouche scarf is lovely too, all those squares randomly placed. They all look soft, though I sort of imagine crochet squares being like a blanket!!
