spring

The first of March is the beginning of Spring for me, whatever the calendar or anybody else says. March is about birdsong, rabbits, primroses, the clocks going forward, more light, green buds, the beginning of the blossom, my birthday. All these things are Spring things. Therefore, it is Spring. The words 'March' and 'winter' just don't go together for me. Spring runs from March until the second week in May when it becomes Early Summer for two weeks. Then, it's summer from June until the end of August. The first two weeks of September are either Late Summer or Autumn depending on the weather and then it's Autumn until the beginning of December, and Winter until the first of March. I do not waver from this, not ever. The so-called 'first day of Spring' on 21st March? Pah. You're three weeks late, mate. The over-excited BBC presenters on Springwatch? It's already May by the time they appear and that's Summer in my house. Airline 'summer' schedules beginning on April 1st? That's got to be a joke, surely.

No, it's Spring. There's a little posy of Spring flowers from the garden to prove it, look.

I couldn't agree with you more. March is most definitely spring in my book too!
Your calendar is very similar to mine, the only difference is that in mine December is the only winter month, January and February are pre-spring! I reckon one month of winter is enough.
Happy weekend and spring,

I have decided to adopt these rules. I am so grateful for Spring this year - I felt as though Winter was starting to squeeze my heart and it would have been helpful to know that it was so nearly over.

I am with you all the way. 1st of March is St. David's day, my Patron Saint and at school we would have a mini Eisteddfod and that WAS the start of spring!

It is getting better by the day.

BTW, is that Lungwort in with your Primroses? They look so fresh and pretty.

With you all the way on your calendar of the year. March is Spring no matter how cold it is and the birdsong has already changed so it's not just humans who have decided winter is over! Your Spring posy is beautiful and proof positive of your theory! Enjoy this month and all it promises. E x

Sue,I like your version of when the four seasons make their debuts and then exit the stage.

Gosh, here in NYC we've been so fortunate this winter. I've only needed to shovel snow outside the shop once, and that snow was really light weight.

Perhaps if all the evidence of global climate change continues, we might need to revise our seasons' boundaries...but don't tell the moon. The moon seems to still wax and wane as it has for a long, long time.

Yes, March is Spring! And you have those flowers in your garden already?? All I can offer are some struggling crocuses. Oh, and some snowdrops that Mr.G dug up and I rescued and put in a pot.

Well if you say so, who are we to argue? The birds are tweeting in agreement and the sun shone just long enough to venture in the garden with a cup of coffee.

March 1st is the meteorogical first day of spring. The BBC weather forecasters said so and that's good enough for me. It's when I hear the first curlew call (usually about mid March and a week or so after the lapwings arrive which was this weekend) that I know we're there.

Absolutely agree with you - my seasons exactly. With your beautiful posy, birds singing outside my window now and sunshine today, of course it's spring. I think the frost last night and the cold forecast is just to remind us that it's early spring.

Yes, I agree with you - March is a synonym for Spring, it wears all its scents and birds' songs, anticipates its colours. What a better sight than a little bush with tiny green buds amidst a dusty road and trees with brown leaves that have surrendered during winter...? This is the month of my birthday, too and I never feel the so called "spring fatigue" - on the congrary, I'm full of energy!
Have a lovely, colourful and merry March, Sue!:)

I keep saying we're on the cusp of spring, and hoping the weather will take the hint! Cold, grey, and rainy again today :(
