turning over an old leaf

An old leaf is just as inviting as a new leaf I can't help feeling, and an old leaf is what I feel like after the ravages of 2012, which was probably just about as bad as a year ever was.

But an old leaf is fine, and after a few weeks of lying on the ground, nestling into the soil, being blown about, and being frozen solid so that all its veins, edges and naked structure are revealed, an old leaf can become very beautiful and very much part of the cycle of things.

Lots of things changed last year, and lots of things will change this year. I'm planning to make sure that many more of this year's changes are positive ones, and I hope to begin by being present on these pages a little more.

I'm so sorry to hear that last year was grim. Life can be bumpy. Wishing you a smoother ride this year.

An old leaf has a history and that makes it intriguing and notable! Besides its beauty...:) I do hope the New Year's chapter of your life story will be full of more light and smiles, satisfaction and happy moments, so that at its end you could post a photo of a tree in blossom!!!:D
Happy New Year, dear Sue!xx

Sue, I am sending you my very best wishes for this New Year 2013, along with my ramblings about turning leaves, old and new.

When a storm is coming, tree leaves often turn in a new direction. We have a time worn/tested saying about turning a new leaf, but I've always thought this referred to pages (leaves) in a book. Fresh leaf, fresh chance.

Trees and shrubs continue to produce new leaves every year, and while those leaves are on the branches, they feed the supporting tree. I wonder if botany allows the tree or branch a parting thank you to those autumnal falling leaves? Oh yes, this is such a simplification of nature, yet nature does give us lots of guidance.

Sue, you see I am rambling, but do want to send you all best wishes in the weeks and months to come. I am hoping that we may have another chance in 2013 to meet and talk about art and life.

xo

I am so glad to see you returning here - I had lost your blog for a time, then found it again recently... I agree that 2012 is well gone, was just about the most challenging year I have managed to live through

Wishing you a new year to come that will have much to delight you!

Love the leaf and your positive attitude! I like frosted leaves too - older leaves can be far more beautiful, I think.

Well done for riding the storm. Have loved your blog and your artwork and would be delighted to see more. Our oldest daughter and her partner had an oak tree in their garden, and they read that when an oak tree isn't thriving, nearby oak trees link their roots to it to help support and feed the sick one. Hopefully, we, your readers, can do the same for you - surely the best possible function of the internet.

I've had years like that - the sort you can't wait to see the back of - but things do change and we all change too, so best wishes, stay strong and it will be a pleasure to see you here whenever you're able.

It will be good to see you here more often :D

I too am hoping that 2013 will offer considerably more ups than 2012 managed to deliver. May the months ahead be all that you wish them to be Sue x

Lovely entry ~ love the leaf photo. I find fall to be intriguing... when the life slowly pulls from trees branches into the ground... sending leaves cascading down and sprinkling the ground... rest assured, the trees continue to grow even into the winter! ;) I hope this year is a bit kinder for you all this year! Thank you again for the post! ♥ Dawn
