inspiration

I have been so amazed and inspired today by this article, I can't stop thinking about it. I can't get this out of my head either: if all of us who have enough gave something to those who haven't, we would only need to give 1% of our incomes to completely eradicate poverty.

Very interesting article Sue.
I'm sure we can all live with less and at this time of year when people are spending, spending spending, here's hoping they think about those O/S with little and give generously.
What better gift than to know you saved a life or made a difference that will last a lifetime.

Thanks for the link to the article, it just shows that it is possible to live with less and still enjoy life. Something that more of us can surely do, and with the bonus of being able to help people in need.

A great article - and a thoughtful and generous man. I notice he gives to charities that frankly I hadn't heard of, but which he knows well, and the work they do. I think we all need to do this - choose our charities carefully, ones that actually spend the money wisely, and where it will make a difference. Health and education (especially for girls) are so important, and can actually help change the world. Unfortunately there are so many corrupt governments in manay of the poorer countries, that we have to be wise as to where our money goes.

yes, a wonderful thought....BUT... and it's a pretty big but.... who is going to pay the extraginormous salaries and bonus paycheques of the head honchos who are supposed to organize the distribution of said monies... but, who, instead skim even more off the top? .... If they would actually do their jobs... organize things properly...and then... give up 1% of THEIR OWN ridiculously huge paycheques... there would only be half the hunger and poverty in the world already.

Think I'll stick with something closer to home... and give my money to Amps and Champs... who only use a small % of monies collected for overhead and all the rest goes to making artificial limbs. It does my heart good to see a child get back to being able to do what children do... all because of an artificial limb.
