consolidation

Thankfully, thankfully, things have quietened down a little in my life just now. Illness has subsided, sleep is usually possible, I have more time to myself, I am feeling brighter and have more energy at last. Who is to say how long this may last, but I am very, very grateful for this time to breathe.

I am enjoying finding the time to keep a clean and tidy house, to plan and make nutritious food for us all, to exercise and stretch and get strong again, to improve my posture and my back problems, to read a little more, to get out in the sunshine and think about pruning and maybe growing some beans. My granddaughter is becoming a little easier and more fun and there is more of a dialogue between us, with the promise of more to come. There are birthdays and visits and other nice things to look forward to.

So, nothing major is getting done, no great works, no daily programmes of activity have begun, there is no particularly creative buzzing going on. This will come I think. I will always need to create and eventually there will be more time to devote to this. Meanwhile, there is always crochet.

My latest project is a stripey blanket worked in aran weight yarn. It was supposed to be a way of using up old half-balls and oddments, but along the way a 'few' more balls have found their way into my wool basket and into the blanket. I chose the colours to remind me of the sea and of the shore... sand, water, wood, rock, seaweeds, shells, shimmering light on the wings of birds. I love the sea and the shore and this is for wrapping up in and dreaming.

It is about halfway through and a lovely thing to do in the evenings... it is still chilly enough for a log fire most nights and there are lots of great things on tv... have you seen Sacred Music and The Wonders of the Solar System? If not, do try to.

Hello Sue, the colors in that crocheting are very evocative. Beautifully chosen! I do know what you mean about how using up odd bits of yarn usually results in additional purchases.

I also know how crocheting can be an answer to a simmering creative spell. For myself, it's a way to be playful with color and design, without much forethought. Just play. And sometimes, that playfulness catches hold of another idea, that leads to another idea, and so forth.

So cold, windy and rainy here today. I will have to go out for some errands eventually, but for now will try to paint some Easter cards (once I put down the crocheting!)

Best wishes. xo

It might seem like nothing major happening but it sounds like you are enjoying day to day pleasures of living... sounds pretty major to me! The blanket is gorgeous. Such soothing colours.

I've been watching both those programmes Sue - it makes a change to have something worth watching on the TV!

Glad to hear that things are ticking over nicely with you. Love the colours in your stripey blanket.

I'm with Gina on this one - sounds as though there is quite a lot happening albeit in a quiet way. Love the colours in your blanket - it will be just the thing for cool summer evenings or winter nights watching some great television.

Been watching the "Solar System" programme. That Brian Cox is soooo sexy! (Yes, this is your mother speaking!)

Like your amaryllis - mine died.

Sounds like a great gentle consolidation period Sue. I need one of those too and am just starting to feel it is on its way. Great colours.

Hi Sue
Mmm, lovely to hear about good food, and all the elements that go into your crochet!
I'm an avid fan of the Solar System (my other half thinks I'm a bit sad now after my explanation of Io) - and I can't believe Brian was in D-Ream, one of my favourite bands at the time (many years ago)!
Another beautiful post from you. Make the most of the time!
Best wishes
Dan

I can just picture you snuggled up by the fire with your crochet ... funny, isn't it, how more yarn inveigles its way in! Glad things are looking up for you now.

It's great that you feel better and full of energy, Sue! In accord with the coming Spring. Obviously, no matter the reasons, your inner "self" has needed this calm period to have a rest. The serious, major plans can be postponed. It's much better and pleasant to have more time for all the ordinary things that fill our lives, to feel how lovely they are and what they give us... And to think about it from time to time, when you lie in your blanket with the colours of summer and sea beach. You've written it so beautifully!!

I understand this post - it is the moment when you think "Today, I can breathe properly" and you know that you don't have to worry about tomorrow either.

What's in your 'leftovers' basket is the stuff dreams are made of. I have a "beach dreaming' room here in the city that I like to keep those afghan colors in--just to pretend I am away at the beach. Your blanket is gorgeous, no surprise there!

I've just stumbled in here via Frances blog...

I adore the subtle colours you've chosen for the crochet blanket...

oh, and lots of common ground in your bok list... why haven't I been here before?

Beautiful stripey blanket! I've been working (sporadically) on a similar one -- funny how those projects meant to use up odds and ends usually lead one to buying more yarn ;-).

Sue - you've just left a comment on my blog. It's so lovely to discover that you are 'mouse'! I've been enjoying your blog for ages - although only as a lurker. Your blog has a peaceful quality which I admire and enjoy, probably because 'peaceful' is not something that comes easily to me. Thank you for your comment and thank you for your blog. Rosie

Thanks for bringing to my attention the Wonders of the Solar System. I'm not a great TV viewer, so it had passed me by. But I've been watching it on the BBC iPlayer (another 'skill' I've discovered recently) and it's really good.

I've never crotcheted, but that blanket looks good. It does have the feel of the sea, which I love.

beautiful colours in the crochet blanket, and they capture the colours of the seaside perfectly. It will be a beautiful blanket to snuggle under or be wrapped in.
