"China tea, the scent of hyacinths, wood fires and bowls of violets - that is my mental picture of an agreeable February afternoon"

Constance Spry, quoted in Simple Abundance by Sarah ban Breathnach, and seconded by me.

I can't disagree.
By coincidence I was reading a Constance Fry cookery book this afternoon– on the etiquette of cakes.

That is a really, fantastically beautiful photograph! I just love the monochrome - bot black and white, but delicate shades, just hinting at colour.

Could you ask Gigibird how cakes can have etiquette??

I love your blog, so glad I found it! Your about page is wonderful but makes me wish I could hop across the pond for a visit to the UK. But at least I do live by the sea! (Florida)

Have a great day! ~ Kim

Driving home from work in the dark and snow was not an agreeable way to spend a February afternoon. Getting back to a warm house and a cooked tea.......now that's a different story.

you have indeed conjured up a wonderful afternoon in your thoughts - if only we could make that happen. Thank goodness for the calming spirit of our souls---

Thirded by me...but i like freesias too.
Please tell me your house gets dirty and untidy sometimes?
At the moment my living room resembles one of those rooms on Location Location where they walk in and pull their faces and say 'Oh well, we can change the decor'.

So much to enjoy. I'm glad I came here from 'sight of morning' looking for inspiration and sustenance.
